"Would you just Shhh?!" I looked up at the White gums and realised mum was  teaching me how to be silent in nature.

From my early life in Alice Springs my mother taught me a way of seeing that opened the door to endless creative possibilities. Her experimental existence paved the way for my creative journey. She took me on adventures to special places where she facilitated art spaces for women working for Charles Darwin University. These experiences provided great insight into Aboriginal culture, connection to first nations people and their land.

Mum was my teacher. She started me on an ecoprinting path of no return. Her method is a direct transfer printing technique that uses steam to extract colour from plants. I print with ethically foraged leaves and flowers. My garden is a source of inspiration and mostly all printable material. Ground roots such as turmeric and barks including logwood, are often used to create contrasting backgrounds. Print intensity is manipulated with iron, aluminium, and copper mordants. The possibilities are endless in the slow fashion world.

I learn from what works and what doesn’t through personal observation. As a retired professional photographer I am drawn unexpected outcomes of the developing process. Photographic and botanical printing foster a similar anticipation that brings much joy.

Hannah Lawicki's eco friendly apparel is an invitation to contemplate the transience of nature and the role sustainable fashion has in caring for and preserving our environment. Support the slow fashion movement for the health and longevity of a biodiverse system.

Transforming eco printed material into unique and meaningful sustainable apparel is a way we represent nature.

Our delicate silk is inspired and made by nature, it may be transformative.
